Santa Croce Church Florence

Western civilization has been profoundly influenced by what happened in Italy.

Our laws, architecture, art, culture, and science including construction techniques, plumbing, and metallurgy come directly from the Romans 2,000 years ago and from the Italians during the Rennaisance in the 1500's and 1600's.

In this one church in Florence many famous people are buried including Michelangelo, Galileo, and Machiavelli.

I was born and raised in the desert. Down in the West Texas town of El Paso. Because my parents had a Mexican nanny for us kids, my first word was in Spanish rather than English. I graduated from Austin High School and UTEP. In college I got a lot of A's, an ulcer, and migrane headaches which have never re-appreared. After I finished school I lived for a while in several of the Southern California beach communities near Los Angeles, in Homestead near the Everglades in South Florida, and for several years in Cajun country near New Iberia in far South Louisiana. It was interesting for a desert boy to experience a direct head-on hit from a category 5 hurricane (Andrew) while I was living there in Lousy Anna. For the last 14 years I have had the pleasure of living and traveling all over Western Europe. The next (and no doubt final) chapter in this neat little adventure is going to be returning to the New World. Probably sometime around Christmas, or maybe in the Spring. I've already got a long list of places I want to go and things I want to see there. Especially in New Mexico, the Big Bend of West Texas, and Old Mexico. http://tinyurl.com/m5qly
